DebEX KDE (Debian Buster/Sid) Build 171203 with Plasma 5.37 and Calamares Installer (so you can install DebEX in any language!)

Softpedia 171208: Debian 10-Based Distro DebEX KDE Plasma Now Uses Latest Calamares Installer

"Coming one and a half months after the previous build, DebEX KDE Build 171203 incorporates all the latest package updates from the upstream Debian GNU/Linux 10 "Buster" (Debian Testing) and Debian Sid (Debian Unstable) repositories, and updates the KDE components to KDE Development Platform 4.16.0 LTS and KDE Plasma 5:37 as default desktop environment.

It also ships with the Linux 4.13.4 kernel compiled by the developer with extra hardware support, but the biggest change, however, is the replacement of the Refracta Installer with the recently released Calamares 3.1.9 universal installer framework for GNU/Linux distributions, which lets users choose their preferred language when the installation starts."

ArchEX (Arch Linux) with Deepin 15.5, LXQt, kernel 4.13.12-1-ARCH, Firefox 57.0, Yaourt and Calamares installer – Build 171129

Softpedia 171130: Arch Linux-Based ArchEX Distro Now Shipping with Deepin 15.5 Desktop, LXQt 0.12

"Powered by the Linux 4.13.12 kernel, ArchEX 2018 Linux distro is the first of its kind to offer users the recently released Deepin 15.5 Desktop, which we have to admit that it's a gorgeous user interface. The developer previously shipped Deepin 15.5 Desktop in his ExTiX 18.0 GNU/Linux distribution.

"In this new version, which I call ArchEX 2018, I have added the Deepin 15.5 (latest) Desktop environment," said Arne Exton in the release announcement. "I came to like Deepin very much when I installed it in ExTiX 18.0. So I thought why not install Deepin also in ArchEX?"

In addition to Deepin 15.5 Desktop, ArchEX 2018 also comes with the more lightweight LXQt 0.12 desktop environment for those seeking an alternative that's more friendly with their older hardware. On top of that, the new version includes the Calamares 3.1.8 graphical installer to install ArchEX on your personal computer."

ExLight 64 bit Linux with Enlightenment 0.20, kernel 4.13.0-16-exton and Refracta Tools (create your own Ubuntu live installable system)

Softpedia 171116: ExLight Linux Distro Now Based on Ubuntu 17.10, Features Enlightenment Desktop

"ExLight Build 171112 is the latest update to the Linux distro, which is based on the recently released Ubuntu 17.10 (Artful Aardvark) operating system, but also borrows some package from the upcoming Debian GNU/Linux 10 "Buster" repositories (a.k.a. Debian Testing).

The biggest change in this release is the replacement of the Linux 4.9 LTS kernel used in previous versions of the distribution with the more recent Linux 4.13 kernel series. ExLight Build 171112 runs a specially crafted kernel 4.13.0-16-exton based on upstream's Linux 4.13.4 kernel.

ExLight lets you build your own Ubuntu-based live system

The best thing about this ExLight release is that it ships with the Refracta Tools utility, which lets you build your own Ubuntu-based live system. You don't even have to install the distro to use Refracta Tools, and the entire process of creating a bootable ISO image won't take more than 5 minutes."

DebEX Gnome (Debian Buster/Sid) – Build 171026 – with Gnome 3.26 (latest), Mate 1.18 (latest), Refracta tools, Nvidia 387.12 and kernel 4.13

Softpedia 171027 about DebEX Gnome: "After announcing the latest update to the DebEX KDE Plasma GNU/Linux distribution, developer Arne Exton informed us about the release of a new build of DebEX GNOME Edition.

DebEX GNOME is a variant of the Debian-based DebEX operating system built around the GNOME desktop environment. The new release, DebEX GNOME Build 171026 is shipping with the latest GNOME 3.26 desktop environment by default, which is accompanied by the lightweight, GNOME 2-based, MATE 1.18 desktop environment.

Just like DebEX KDE Plasma, the DebEX GNOME Edition is based on the Debian Testing and Sid repositories, while the DebEX Barebone Edition remains based on Debian GNU/Linux 9 "Stretch" and Debian Unstable/Sid. The system is powered by Arne Exton's special kernel based on the Linux 4.13.4 kernel.

"I have made a new extra version of DebEX, which I call DebEX Gnome Live DVD. It’s a pure Debian system using the testing (buster) and unstable (sid) repositories. Two Desktop Environments are pre-installed. Gnome 3.26 (latest) and Mate 1.18 (latest)," said Arne Exton in the release announcement."

Exton|OS Light Build 170918 :: Based on upcoming Ubuntu 17.10 with Refracta tools and kernel 4.13.0-11-exton (4.13.1)

Softpedia 171028: "GNU/Linux developer Arne Exton has released an updated version of his Exton|OS Light distro, which has been recently rebased on Canonical's latest Ubuntu 17.10 (Artful Aardvark) operating system.

Exton|OS Light Live DVD Build 170918 is, in fact, one of the first GNU/Linux distributions to have been rebased on Ubuntu 17.10, which was officially released on October 19, 2017, as the first Ubuntu release in seven years to replace the Unity user interface with the GNOME 3 desktop environment.

However, Exton|OS Light doesn't use GNOME, but, instead, it deploys the ultra lightweight and low on resources Openbox window manager, which the developer customized to look as modern as possible. Not to mention that Exton|OS Light ships with only a minimum of packages pre-installed.

But the best thing about the new Exton|OS Light release comes with Refracta Tools to allow you to easily build your own live system based on Ubuntu 17.10 (Artful Aardvark)."

DebEX KDE (Debian Buster/Sid) – Build171023 – with KDE Plasma 5.37, Refracta tools, Nvidia 384.90 and kernel 4.13.0-16-exton

Softpedia 171027: DebEX KDE Plasma Is a Pure Debian GNU/Linux 10 "Buster" Distro with Linux 4.13

"DebEX KDE Plasma Build 171023 is here to replace last year's Build 161001, bringing components from both the Debian Sid and Debian Testing repositories, which means that it doesn't contain any packages from Ubuntu, nor Kubuntu operating systems, thus making it a bleeding-edge GNU/Linux distribution.

Powered by the Linux 4.13.4 kernel, DebEX KDE Plasma is a pure Debian GNU/Linux 10 "Buster" distro that ships with both KDE 4.16 and KDE Plasma 5 desktop environments. It comes pre-installed with the Nvidia 384.90 proprietary graphics driver, the Mozilla Firefox 56.0 web browser, and SMPlayer video player.
"Ships with Refracta Tools so you can make your own Live ISO"

The best thing about the new DebEX KDE Plasma release is that it includes Refracta Tools, which allows users to create their own live and installable ISO images based on Debian GNU/Linux 9 "Stretch" / 10 "Buster" or DebEX KDE Plasma. You don't even have to install the distro to use Refracta Tools, if you have enough system memory".

RaspAnd Nougat 7.1.2 for Raspberry Pi 3 – Build 171019/170805 – with GAPPS, Aptoide TV and Kodi 18.0-ALPHA1 to be installed in Linux

Softpedia 171023 about RaspAnd Nougat Build 171019: GNU/Linux developer Arne Exton announced the release of a new build of his commercial RaspAnd project that lets users run Google’s Android mobile operating system on their Raspberry Pi 3 single-board computers.

RaspAnd Build 171019 is here to introduce support for installing the operating system from a GNU/Linux distribution as support for installing it from a Windows OS, using the win32 disk imager utility, is limited to 5GB of free space for storing files, no matter how big the SD card used is.

“Only about 5GB can be used as data storage no matter which card you use. I have therefore today uploaded a new version, which can be (must be) installed using a Linux system,” said Arne Exton in the release announcement. “The new system from 171019 is basically the same system as the RaspAnd system from 170805.”

Using this latest build, users will be able to use as much as 56GB free space for storing their files on RaspAnd when using a 64GB MicroSD card.”

RaspAnd Nougat 7.1.2 for Raspberry Pi 3 – Build 170805 – with Google Play Store, Aptoide TV, Kodi 17.3 and Google Chrome

Softpedia 170812: Android-Based RaspAnd OS Updated for Raspberry Pi 3 with Google Play Support

"After announcing the latest build of his Ubuntu-based RaspEX Linux distro for Raspberry Pi 3 and 2 SBCs, GNU/Linux developer Arne Exton now informs Softpedia about the release of RaspAnd Nougat 7.1.2 Build 170805.

It's been two months since Arne Exton's RaspAnd received an update, and the latest build is here to finally make Google Play Store work, allowing users to install various of the supported Android apps on their Raspberry Pi 3 single-board computers.

"I have finally managed to make a version of RaspAnd Nougat 7.1.2 (for Raspberry Pi 3), which has GAPPS installed and Google Play store working," said Arne Exton. "The video performance is generally much better than in previous versions and the screen flickering is (almost) gone."
"Run Google's Android 7.1.2 Nougat mobile OS on your Raspberry Pi 3"

As its name suggests, RaspAnd Nougat 7.1.2 lets you run Google's Android 7.1.2 Nougat mobile operating system on your Raspberry Pi 3 single-board computer. Unfortunately, it's not compatible with previous Raspberry Pi models as Android Nougat requires quite a lot of hardware power."

ExTiX 17.7 with Budgie Desktop, Refracta Tools and kernel 4.11.0.10-exton

Softpedia 170712 about ExTiX 17.7 with the Budgie Desktop:

"ExTiX developer Arne Exton is informing us today about the availability of a new update to his Ubuntu- and Debian-based ExTiX Linux distribution, versioned 17.7.

ExTiX 17.7 comes as an update for the previous release, ExTiX 17.5, which the developer launched in early May as the first of the GNU/Linux operating system to be powered by a kernel from the Linux 4.11 series, and it introduces the first ever flavor that's built around the Budgie desktop environment from the Solus Project.

"I’ve made a new extra version of ExTiX with Budgie Desktop," says Arne Exton in today's announcement. "Budgie is focused on simplicity and elegance. Designed with the modern user in mind. Only a minimum of packages are installed in ExTiX Budgie. You can, of course, install all packages you want."

But the good news is that ExTiX Budgie is designed from the offset to allow users to use it directly from a bootable medium, be either a USB flash drive or DVD disc, as they can install package and make other settings in live mode. If you're curious to know with what set of apps ExTiX Budgie ships, study the list of installed packages.
"Refracta Tools is pre-installed, so you can build your own Live ISO"

On top of that, ExTiX Budgie comes pre-installed with Refracta Tools, which lets users create their own Ubuntu/Debian/ExTiX-based Live ISO images, with their own selection of packages and features. Refracta Tools can be used to generate custom live images even when using ExTiX in live mode, if you have at least 2GB RAM."

RaspEX for Raspberry Pi 3/2 – Build 170810 – based on Ubuntu 17.04 with LXDE and kernel 4.9.41-exton-v7+

    Softpedia about RaspEX Build 170810:

"GNU/Linux developer Arne Exton on Thursday announced the release and general availability of a new stable build of his Ubuntu-based RaspEX Linux operating system for Raspberry Pi 3 and 2 single-board computers.

A lot of improvements went into the new RaspEX release, which was tagged as build 170810, starting with the replacement of the Linux 4.4 LTS kernel packages that were used in previous versions, with the more newer Linux 4.9 LTS kernel, and continuing with the rebase of the entire OS to Ubuntu 17.04 (Zesty Zapus).

RaspEX Build 170810 also uses packages from the Debian GNU/Linux 9 "Stretch" and Linaro repositories and adds Wicd as default network manager, Mozilla Firefox as default web browser to replace Chromium because it features better support for watching YouTube videos.

Additionally, the developer installed Samba and VNC4Server to let users easily connect to their Windows PCs on the LAN (Local Area Network) and control the RaspEX OS on a Raspberry Pi 3 or Raspberry Pi 2 SBC, if they use Putty, VNC Viewer, or a similar SSH/VNC/Telnet client."
