OK, I don't think I really need to change to 64-bit. I have 6 Gig of RAM and it seems that a 64-bit system manages the memory above 4 Gig in a better way. Moreover, I also work with video and rendering video seems to go better with a 64-bit processor and OS. As far as I am conerned, I'd like to try things out.
So my question is, how do I replace the existing 32-bit Ubuntu with a 64-bit Ubuntu, with keeping most of my configuration, settings, applications and data intact. Can I just reinstall the 64-bit OS OVER the existing 32-bit OS ??? or are there other issues to be considered ?????
You might be better of making a question proper of this. All the same, I have never heard of doing an upgrade per se to 64-bit. The only difference between 64bit and 32bit is in binaries which take advantage of the respective data bus widths. Settings and data can be used, frequently, without modification.
