Download packages for offline installation In opensuse, ubuntu, debian,fe dora, mandriva
For debian users, Synaptic has pretty much the same capability built in. Select your desired packages in the normal way, but instead of clicking on "Apply", use File/Generate Package Download Script. It will prompt you for a name and generate a script that will download the requested packages, plus dependencies. You can copy this script to an internet-connected linux/unix box or anything that has a working wget command, or if necessary examine the script and download the files using some other tool, even a web browser.
Copy the downloaded packages back to the original system and install with dpkg, something like dpkg -iR /media/usbdisk, substituting the directory where you have copied the files for /media/usbdisk.Posted 01-17-2010 at 05:51 PM by lwasserm -

Running Microsoft2007 Office in Linux
ewwwww, evil proprietary thingy, it doesn't even meant to exist, neither in unix nor in real!!! >:-[
i can only imagine it will work much worse than notepad++, which heavily loads system when you just type text there... and you have to wait for it to appear in window for 0.05-0.2 seconds.
why would we possibly need that $%!& when we have OpenOffice?Posted 01-16-2010 at 11:22 AM by Web31337 -

Run Windows applications on Linux
Well, actually, wine runs Half-Life 1 quite good: i often play it. Of course, it's not as fast as it was on windows, but still it is possible to play hard on DM over the net. I don't really get the point of this playonlinux application... it's based on wine so if wine doesn't run some app this won't hack it too.Posted 01-15-2010 at 08:18 PM by Web31337 -
