    Linux Malware.

yeah that's stupid anyways. also screensaver is being run as user, that makes no sense.
it makes sense when there is a rootkit-like malware, which you install under root, that is a treat. but that method is also unavailable, if users will simply follow that simple rule "don't download and install anything from untrusted sites."

Using Chrome OS as a safer way to use the WWW.

OK, that was a bit of silliness really. I suppose it would work and have the desired effect but there are better ways... There's a piece on security on my web pages. (See profile...) Follow the Rich IT link to find it.

    A question answered.

Have you ever used Puppy Linux? It is the best small distro around for me: does networking, both wired and wireless, connects with tel. modem, printing (i.e. networked printing as well as the direct connect), does the multimedia stuff I need, and the tools are easy to use. I've introduced two people recently who are NOT computer people to Puppy, and they are doing what they need to do and liking it.

Take a look! It might be the one you're looking for to remaster.

    Lazy administrators!

I do not know if that is being lazy or what I call job security and additional income.

It is all the point of view.

With a firewall and antivirus windows is fine
and saying not to do something with an OS that has 80%
of the market share is pointless and fairly untrue

    Patch Tuesday...

I wasn't aware there was any other kind of patch Tuesday. But then I am a bit lazy like that, as I have been accused of not using the GNU/Linux correct naming convention.

    Feminism and sexism...

You may be right. There is a male trainee on another shift. Unfortunately I haven't seen what the content of the training is that he's been given so it is purely my impression that there is a sexist element to the emphasis that has been placed on avoiding the 'hard' technical stuff. Maybe it purely is that all new trainees need handling with care these days...

    Feminism and sexism...

I may have missed your point but

Do you work with young male IT trainee's?

Are you sure she was not intimidated by the "Old Men"?

She may be over cautious and afraid to make any decisions or changes. I will admit women address problems with a different view. This also applies to nationalities.

I will say there is a push to create equality in the work enviroment. Sometimes this will get people pushed in a job that they may not be qualified to perform.

That being said I think I am getting too old because every new trainee (regardless of sex) seems not to be fully trained.

    Ten challenges to Windows users.

Reading comments on other blogs about this propaganda/training push it would seem to me and some others that underlying it all is a need for MS and their associated retail outlets to not only continue selling Windows, but to keep pushing out associated sales like A/V software & customers returning to get their poor performance issues 'fixed' a few months after the initial sale.

This especially makes sense when you consider that some Linux advocates have met with a pretty hostile response from people who have a vested interest in a continuing supply of Windows machines to fix...
