the lucdi bootscreen problem solved!!!

Posted 07-10-2010 at 10:22 PM by t1nm@n

Hello... i moved to lucid lynx (ubuntu 10.04). Well i faced a problem after installing the Nvidia driver on my default install. The boot screen was so big that it was almost ugly. so i looked up some solutions on the bugs section of launchpad...and guess what softpedia already has the solution ..but hey my blog so here it is.... how ever this solution may not be apt for ATi dirvers.
bring up a terminal
Applications > Accessories > terminal

type in the following

sudo apt-get install v86d

gksu gedit /etc/default/grub

now add this to the 9th line

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash nomodeset video=uvesafb:mode_option=1024x768-24,mtrr=3,scroll=ywrap"

also add this too to the 18th line

save and exit from gedit.

now in the terminal type this

gksu gedit /etc/initramfs-tools/modules

in the window add this to last part

uvesafb mode_option=1024x768-24 mtrr=3 scroll=ywrap

save and close as before.

now type this in

echo FRAMEBUFFER=y | sudo tee /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/splash

sudo update-grub2
sudo update-initramfs -u

now reboot and have fun.... just for a note 1440x900 is not really a good choice as a resolution in this procedure (if you are using 1440x900 monitor like me) if you want to do that check it out.....
