Telnet to Windows from *nix

Posted 08-12-2008 at 03:47 PM by grepmasterd

I've had varying results, but in some setups I've noticed that I cannot
invoke a usable telnet session to a windows telnet server (running
Microsoft's native telnet server). The return key doesn't work and the
characters I type are sent in chunks. I've mainly run into this behavior
when I've configured the windows telnet server to run on a non-standard
port, like port 923.

To address the issue, update /etc/telnetrc or a .telnetrc in your home
directory so that it looks like:

Code:
~# cat .telnetrc
winbox mode character
where 'winbox' is the DNS name of your windows telnet server. you can
also omit the host name if you want this mode to apply to all of your
telnet connections.

Code:
~# cat .telnetrc
mode character
this seems to do the trick.
