what is "sound in system"? are you expecting login sounds and all sorts of bleeps? maybe there are none.
and firefox? firefox does not emit sound by itself, so you have to specify. i'm guessing flash video?
and why do you stress HDMI? does it mean you do have sound on analog outputs?
