Two video cards: X crashes
After a couple of minutes of entering LXDE, the screen freezes up.
For the time being, I'm using only the NVIDIA card, with one monitor. I'm keeping the ATI card in, since I plan to use it to attach a second monitor later. It would be easy to just take out the second card, but first I want to figure out what is going on with this setting. I have not created xorg.conf yet, since I have not read enough about how to configure it yet. # lspci | grep VGA Quote:

This seems to show how it is happening Thanks for reading this :) |
GT 430 will support 2 monitors.
Make your life easier, ditch the old ATI Rage XL. |
Thanks for answering.
However, I took away the old card and it is still freezing. Here is the last part of Xorg.4.log: Quote:

There are some scattered reports out there of nouveau producing this EQ overflow.
I've used nouveau with many other cards and I had never seen it happening. Maybe it has to do with this particular card I'm using now. However, this freezing of X was not necessarily assocciated with having two cards, but with this problem between the nouveau driver and my card. In this case (although I usually prefer not to) I replaced the open source driver with the proprietary Nvidia driver, and I stopped having the problem. All is running smoothly as usual now :) Thanks a lot for the input on this. |
