Problems with Ethernet

Hi all,

This is my first time installing Arch, but I have used command line heavy distros before (namely Slackware and Gentoo). My problem is that /etc/rc.d/network reports "unkown interface in /etc/rc.conf: 'eth0'", despite the fact that my Ethernet cable is firmly attatched to my computer.

Here's the relevant part of my rc.conf
Code:
eth0="dhcp"
interface=eth0
address=
netmask=
broadcast=
gateway=
When I run
Code:
lspci | grep Ethernet
it reports that the kernel has the necessary modules for my Ethernet card.

Code:
ip addr
reports that lo is my only network interface.

Any help is appreciated, thanks for reading.

Hi jarubyh,

Appears to me as the file is not configured properly. It should look like:
Code:
interface="eth0"
address=
netmask=
gateway=
Make sure that you take a backup of existing file before editing

Thanks, but I changed it to that, and nothing changed.

Did you reboot the system after making the changes. Sometimes restarting network doesn't give desired results :-)

Still didn't work, I'm afraid.

Paste the output of:

1.
Code:
ls /dev | grep net
2.
Code:
lspci | grep net
Did you check if dhcpcd running on the machine?

Yup. It's in my DAEMONS section in my rc.conf.

Doesn't appear that the module to load network card is getting initialized at the time of boot or later. As ls /dev | grep net should also list net as follows:

Code:
#ls /dev/ | grep net
net
network_latency
network_throughput

Shouldn't it be

Code:
eth0="dhcp"
INTERFACES=(eth0)
?

Edit: (sic) as of my rc.conf file.
