problems with archlinux.org?
I have not been able to access Arch website and forums, or synchronise Pacman for a day or so now. Does anyone know what is going on, or is this just me?

I'm considering switching to Arch from Gentoo and went to browse the site and I'm not having any luck either. I guess the site's down.

Yeah, it has been out for a day or so. I don'y know why. There are mirrors if you are wanting updates or to download 0.6 ISOs. For updates, just make sure the ftp.archlinux.org site is not the first one in your /etc/pacman.conf file (for all of the sections you use current, extra, etc). Here is a mirror for the ISO download:
ftp://ftp.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/dist...6/arch-0.6.iso ftp://ftp.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/dist...rch-0.6.md5sum |
I've been having trouble too, its been intermittently up. Seems its not the only site either, my own webhost has been having trouble.
Anyway, as per my username, I love Arch! I've been dabbling with linux for years, always telling myself "this is the time I'm finally going to completely switch over..." and even have done an LFS system. But... none of it came together like Arch does. Fedora Core 2, Mandrake 10, Debian, Slackware, Gentoo, not for me. I'm going to post some other stuff about problems I had while getting up and running and what I did to solve them. |
No matter, today we seem to be back in business. What a relief :)

A beautiful distro and it seems to be picking up a user base.
On the Arch forums they mention that the outage was due to them switching everything onto a single server in order to cut costs. They are all volunteer and the little ad revenue they have was not enough to pay for the extra server. |
