Partitioning problems

when I go to the partitioning thing and it asks me where I want to put it it comes up with a list like so:
dev/discs/disc0/disc
and it goes on to Disc6. I'm not familiar with that I only know of dev/hda and
dev/hdb

do you know what hd they are talking about?

no i don't. But if you use the most recent arch version 0.7.1 they use /dev/hda and /dev/hdb naming schemes. Because the previous naming schemes just were too confusing.

/dev/discs/disc1/disc will normally be equivalent to /dev/hda, and /dev/discs/disc1/part1, /dev/discs/disc1/part2 and so on equivalent to /dev/hda1, /dev/hda2 and so on.

The advice to use 0.7.1 is all very well, but since it hasn't been released yet, it isn't much help.

ftp://ftp.archlinux.org/0.7.1/iso/i6...0.7.1-pre1.iso

I know you've just downloaded the 0.7 ISO but I really think that 0.7.1 is the way to go. Since the 0.7 ISO was built, they've migrated to gcc4, gone from devfs to udev and have all the issues associated with 2.6.14 and initrd and that's all sorted on the new ISO. It'll save you the hassle of upgrading a large portion of your distro and it has the device naming scheme you know and love so much.
