Packaging rules for Arch... n00b question :

Hi

Found out in ArchWiki that NOTHING is supposed to land in /usr/local...

WTF...?! What is the purpose of /usr/local{bin lib share... } ?

What should be put there...? and why...?

In most distributions /usr/local is reserved for use by non-package manager source code, binaries, etc compiled by the local user. Got a page reference?

Nothing, if you prefer. Same answer for /opt. These directories exist by tradition. Even if not used, someone would surely complain if they were missing.

About what I figured, packaging standards are different than use standards. Local and opt as pix mentioned have become depreciated in common usage, although i think more use local than opt these days (at least in linux, in aix/solaris it's another matter.)
