That's nice for you. Hope you enjoy.
Or was there meant to be a question in that post?

Sounds like he assumed he would be getting a GUI interface when he logged in.
I would link him to the Arch installation guide, but my work has it blocked as "web hosting" for some reason.

You'll have to install X and then pick a GUI. Were you following the new user's install guide? It walks you through that stuff.
I can't get to the page directly from work, but if you go to
http://www.archlinux.org you should be able to find it in the Wiki.

I figured that. Perhaps the OP will thenk before starting a new thread if he/she actually expects to get assisted at LQ.
Posts like this are a pretty good way to get ignore, as is bumping threads after an hour or so (in reference to the OPs other active thread).
Try
init 5
as root and see what happens. I assume by "the program" you mean the GUI?
If that doesn't work, try "startx"
Did you actually install a GUI?
See

I ask again - did you install a GUI? This is getting tedious quickly.

Were you able to find the new user's installation guide in the Wiki? Again, I'm sorry I can't link you directly but it will give you really easy to follow instructions for getting Gnome to work.

Right, keep reading. It will walk you through getting X installed and then getting whichever GUI you want in there. if memory servers there's an entire section devoted to it.
