insatlling VMware-5 in Arch linux?


Hello,

Im trying to install vmware in arch linux but you i have install kernel26 which is compiled using gcc 3.4.3 but the c compiler installed in my arch linux is version 4.0.1 so during installation of vmware it complained abt the i need to use the compiler that was used to compiled the kernel. So how do i overcome this or is there anyother solution available?

You need to recompile your kernel, Since Arch doesn't come with the kernel source, just download it, extract it and then copy the .config file from /usr/src/linux-2.6.12.x-ARCH to where you put the kernel source, cd to that directory and run make oldconfig. Then you'll need to finish as you would compiling a kenel normally.
