When I type grub-install /dev/sda , I get an error that says

I've been tinkering and it doesn't seem that anyone on google is having this issue.
Some extra information is that I have 4 partitions:

sda1 /boot
sda2 /
sda3 swap
sda4 /home
All partitions but the swap are ext4.
I tried running bootctl install for fun and since its not EFI i got the error

File system /boot is not a FAT EFI System Partition (ESP) File sysyem
I expected that but just wanted to give it a try.
If someone has any idea whats going on, please let me know.
