GNOME freezes on boot

Well, the title says it all. when I use

Code:

startx

the gnome-session begins(I changed .xinitrc), It shows the splash screen, then it just sits there. I can get back to the console, kill the gnome session and try again, but it still freezes. Anybody know why?

alright, i left the comp for a couple of hours and gnome finally showed up. can anyone tell me why it's SOO DAMN SLOOOOOWWWWWWW?

Your hostname is probably set wrong.

Check out /etc/hosts and /etc/resolv.conf

You need to have 127.0.0.1 in there pointing to your computer's hostname... That's the most important thing.

If gnome can't resolve your name, it will do funky stuff.

alright! that fixed it, but i kinda changed over to xfce4 in the meantime, faster boot and all, but my other comp uses gnome so i can fix it now!!! thanx alot!
