Changing MIME associations when using Enlightenment 17 File Manager (EFM)

Hi,

I'm running Enlightenment 17.8-1 and am struggling with the File Manager (EFM) that comes with it. The problem I'm having is that I want to prevent it from executing files if I double-click on them and instead always 'open' them (e.g. in a text editor).
In particular I'm having a problem with "Makefile.am" files (that usually come with a source code package) as it always tries to execute them instead of opening them in a text editor (even after I use the "Open With" dialog).
I have no such problem when open "configure.ac" files.
I also have a related problem with LibreOffice documents that always open the "Open With" dialog and force me every time to acknowledge the association.
This is all very annoying.
Is there anything I can do to preven this from happening?
I would just like to double click files and have them open in the associated file handler of my choosing.

I know I can use alternative File Managers that probably handle MIME better than EFM but I would prefer to use ELF based applications where I can.

Thanks,
Ruud
