To switch virtual terminals in the guest OS is the Host key (usually right CTRL) + F1 (F2, F3, etc.).
To run Xorg with an Arch Linux guest, you need to install the virtualbox additions. Older guest additions do not work with xorg 1.9, which Arch uses, so make sure you're using the latest.
That's wrong, I've installed Arch in VirtualBox and used X without Guest Additions many times.
Fair enough. I haven't, but am going off the Arch Wiki, which clearly states
