I am wounding if sense i have installed several variants of Linux visa via usb stick (booting) I could possibly house every partition accept the /home partition on a 16gb sdhc card?

Yes you can , install it from some other place (cds , usb ) and then while installing put / on the 16GB one and home on the harddisk. but always have the card inside, and when you boot i guess you'd have to select the sdhc every time at the boot screen
