ACPI Error: Namespace lookup failure, AE_NOT_FOUND - 1st time arch dual boot attempt
hi
0. error message detail: Code:
Arch_Linux: clean, ... files, ... blocks 2. successfully followed arch installation guide here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php...n_guide#Chroot . 3. on first boot attempt got ACPI Error related to 'sp5100_tco already in use', plus the above one. 4. fixed former error by blacklisting sp5100_tco; boot still produces above error. 5. updated BIOS as per http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...it-4175448907/ with the latest MSI BIOS (from here https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/supp...html#down-bios) but boot still produces above error. 6. updated graphics driver (loosely) as per http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...up-4175505932/ with the 'Automatically Detect and Install Your Driver' (from here http://support.amd.com/en-us/download), which included successful file integrity checks with DISM and SFC (described here http://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-arti...es/KB1603.aspx) but the error when trying to boot arch persists (windows remains boot-able). Does 'VGA' indicate graphics, and should it be possible to get arch alongside windows on this machine? thanks Update: according to gpu-z, radeon r5 graphics doesn't support uefi and the machine must run legacy to boot - which is however what the bios explicitly specifies for all boots, i.e. uefi only, including for windows 10 (which appears fine with it). i don't understand. |
Few years back we were getting these errors and the fix was to turn off ACPI in the BIOS, although not so sure that would help as your windows partition may not boot.

@tmacpherson thanks for your comment; the bios lists solely 'power led' under acpi settings, which can only be toggled between 'blinking' and 'dual'.
-I also tried installing ArchBang and Lubuntu from LiveUsb with the same result, hang up, but less output information. |
have you asked this question on https://bbs.archlinux.org/index.php ?
|
@ondoho thanks, should i delete this thread to avoid leaving it dangling?
|
you can't.
i can't either. i also didn't mean to kick you out; i said it because i can't offer any better help, and also because i see that you described it so well that you might actually get an answer there ;-) |

@ondoho i understand, just wondered how to be clear without copying everything, and most of what i found is from this site. i'll have a think
@Rickkk thanks, i'll check (though i've become wary since the machine is in good use for windows) |
