antiX 17 and MX-17 - two EXCELLENT distributions!
For those interested in antiX and MX, two distributions that grew and evolved from the old MEPIS days - but not necessarily in SIZE - these distributions are- within the general bloat that we see across most applications, a pleasant move (about as far as they can go, given the upstream code inherited) toward modest size and efficiency, and they are also models of stability and usefulness.
Distribution Release: antiX 17 release is announced on DistroWatch at https://distrowatch.com/?newsid=10004 (2017-10-25 release notice) Distribution Release: MX Linux 17 release is announced on DistroWatch at https://distrowatch.com/?newsid=10063 (2017-12-15 release notice) |
They're still around? With 32-bit being faded out? Great! I have some rigs that need an update/new OS...all 32-bit...thanks for posting :)

Absolutely loving mx-17 amd64. b43 broadcom wireless works out of the box. I use the xfce(ish) desktop and the menu seems a bit like cinnamon desktop. Thunar right click file sharing is a blessing. mx is fast, easy on resources and breaths new life into an old Dell 1521 inspiron. I like it so much, I installed it to my quad core phenom2 asus board. The only thing missing is google-earth. can't get it to run properly, but it isn't a show-stopper. I have a tri-boot scenario going with win7, slackware64-current, and mx linux. Great Job guys an gals.. kudos to the developers

I've been using AntiX for several years now, always been reliable, & I see no reason not to keep on using it, unless something drastic happens to Linux, then I have my back up plan - OpenBSD. :)

I use 32-bit AntiX-17 on oldboy upstairs (500 MB ram) and I've installed the 64-bit version on a friend's computer. No complaints from either of us. It's systemd-free too, for those who care about that sort of thing.

AntiX 17 works well on my Intel Atom N270 Touchscreen netbook. It detects the touch screen out of the box .
MX 17 works just fine on single core P4 AMD Emachine Shop computer. Both of my installs are covered in the antix forum under the hardware section. |
i totally agree, i installed mx17 on 2 old laptops with no issues at all, and the support from the community is truly awesome

Installed google-earth through mx tools > mx package installer and it works great. It's an old google-earth build but it works just fine for me

I got a 1980 xl sportster that gets me around just as well as a 2017 xl sportster.

MX Linux is getting ready to release MX18 soon.
In a very short time, MX Linux has zoomed in popularity, and that's for a reason. After KDE5 came out, I had to find something simplier and luckily ended up with MX16 with which I was highly impressed. It is so good I am sticking with it instead of upgrading to MX17. However MX17 users seem just as impressed. This is a great XFCE distro that is worth a try because it just keeps getting better due to the hard work of some talented people. https://twitter.com/MX_Linux https://forum.mxlinux.org/ https://m.facebook.com/groups/665300826967101/ |
