Smile Why can't I start X server ?

Hello , first I want to say I'm a newbie in Linux and second please excuse my English because is kind of rusty.

Ok, now let's get to business I recently installed Amigo 2.0 but I have a problems starting the X server .Here is a part of the output from the console :

(WW) VGA:No matching Device Section for instance (BusId PCI:1:0:0) found
(EE) VGA(0):Virtual Height (0) is to small for the hardware (min1)
(EE) Screens found but none have usable configuration

I think this is because I had't configured correctly the Video Card . I tried several times to find the matching video card using Xf86config but no use.
This might be because I don't now all the card's parameters the descriptions?
All I know is that I have an ATI RAGE with 4 M RAM

How can I solve this problem and enjoy my new linux distribution?

Is updating xf86config with a newer version a solution?

Just as important as the video card configuration is the monitor configuration. You will need to know the vertical and horizontal resolution of your monitor from it's documentation. xf86config -> video card -> card database -> ATI Rage
-> video ram -> 4096 -> horiz. refresh -> vert. refresh -> 'screens section' -> 24bit color-> 432 (1024x768, 800x600, 640x480). There will be other questions during xf86config, I tried to hit the highlights above. Important to get the card definition, the monitor resolutions, and the 'screens' sections correct.

run xf86config and choose te ATI driver, then choose 1024x768 resolution at 16 bits depth - use a monitor setting for 1024x768 @ 60Hz.
4MB should be enough to get 24 bit color depth at 1024x768 -you'll want to use 24bit if you do any graphics work -but try 16 first.

Which setup method did you use during installation automatic, Xconfigurator or xf86config?
If you still have troubles you can reset hardware detection by running from the console 'usr/lib/amigosetup/pristine' and then '/usr/lib/amigosetup/firstrun'. If you choose the ADVANCED method, it will let you setup with Xconfigurator which tests your config and lets you correct it if it doesn't work. Also Xconfigurator will setup for higher resolutions than xf86config.
Or, try the AUTO method and see if that works.
You can rerun 'firstrun' as much as you like -just be sure and first backup any /etc/fstab or /etc/X11/XF86Config that you want to keep!

An even better way to rerun hardware setup is to run 'pristine' and then reboot, instead of running 'firstrun' right away.
