Slack compatible
How exactly is amigo, slackware like or slackware compatible? Packages? bootup? location of config files?

From the LQWiki, this is Amigo Linux's
homepage, http://www.amigolinux.org/ Maybe this linked page can help to figure out how Amigo is Slackware-like or Slackware-compatible http://amigolinux.org/docs/whatisit.htm fyi, notice from this latter ...docs/whatisit.htm page that amigo seems a mix of slackware, fat/umsdos, and even redhat/knoppix quotes from this page itself: "Amigo and other umsdos-based Linux distributions take advantage of the umsdos-utils to make it possible to run Linux on a FAT partition......... It incorporates Knoppix-style hardware detection, using the RedHat kudzu libraries. It also uses Knoppix' mkxf86config.sh and/or RedHat Xconfigurator to make configuration of graphics hardware easier. These programs DO NOT interfere with the standard Slackware file sructure" http://amigolinux.org/docs/whatisit.htm nycace36 |
thanks, will probably try out amigo. I enjoy trying everything :)

Even though Amigo uses different methods to install and boot from regular slackware, you'll find that configuration and compatibility is still 100%! Amigo doesn't really pretend to be a 'distro' in its' own right.
Amigo combines innovative packaging with automatic (some)hardware configuration to make it easy for someone to start running a Slack-alike. just try it and watch the init and then look around in /etc/rc.d. You'll find nothin anti-slack there. You will notice an /etc/rc.d/init.d and /etc/sysconfig directories that look strange in Slackware. They are part of the 'friendship' that Amigo coaxes out of a couple of redhat programs, coupled with knoppix-based hwsetup, but modified so that leave the 'Slackness' entirely unmolested. |
