Hi, I notice this was posted in the AIX forum. The free command unfortunately doesn't come installed on AIX.
Install/use nmon and press 'm' for memory, output on the left hand side will look like the below example,
Physical
│% Used 86.1%
│% Free 13.9%
│MB Used 7057.4MB
│MB Free 1134.6MB
│Total(MB) 8192.0MB
On the right hand side you will see something like below,
| FileSystemCache
| (numperm) 42.8%
| Process 20.7%
| System 22.7%
| Free 13.9%
| Total 100.0%
So in this example, there is 8192MB RAM assigned to the lpar and 7057MB is used. Of the 7057MB used, 42.8% (numperm%) of that is actually filesystem cache (buffer) so a large portion of this technically can also be used if a process needs it.
The topas command will also give this output as well as commands like vmstat -v and svmon -G.
Hope that helps.
