Question Problem installing SSH on AIX5.3

This is the history of my problem.

I want to copy one folder and its sub-directories from one AIX server to another server. So I read here that I can use rsync.

When I am executing the command
PHP Code:
rsync -aruv localfolderuser@server:destination
/

I am getting following errors
PHP Code:
rsyncFailed to exec sshNo such file or directory (2)
rsync errorerror in IPC code (code 14at pipe.c(84) [sender=3.0.7]
rsyncconnection unexpectedly closed (0 bytes received so far) [sender]
rsync errorerror in IPC code (code 14at io.c(601) [sender=3.0.7
Which means I dont have ssh.I downloaded ssh from sourceforge but when I am trying to untar the file I am getting following error.

PHP Code:
tar -xvf openssh-4.5_srcpatch.tar
ta
PHP Code:
rdirectory checksum error (!= 68490
Can someone help me here with the installation procedure with step to step guide.

Regards,
Ajit

Hi Ajit,

I would strongly recommend that you use the binaries compiled by IBM rather than compile SSH yourself. Check out this article: https://www.ibm.com/developerworks/s...enssh_aix.html

Hi there,

First download OpenSSH and OpenSSL files from https://www14.software.ibm.com/webap...o?source=aixbp.

Once you have done this, transfer (FTP) them to a new directory on AIX (in binary mode). Then unpack them on AIX by running:
Code:
zcat openssl-0.9.8.1802.tar.Z | tar -xvf -
zcat OpenSSH_5.8.0.6102.tar.Z | tar -xvf -
Once this is done, run "smitty install_latest", pick the filesets to install, accept the license agreements, and run.

That should do the trick!

Also, remember that rsync to be password authentication automated will require crypt key exchange between the servers' you're rsyncing.

AIX is a different animal when it comes to package installations; I have always found going through smitty to be the more stable method of software package installation. IBM AIX uses a very similar concept to the MS key registry, called an ODM database, that makes it both more complex to manage and more stable/less corruptable "by accident". AIX is not as "clean" a distro as redhat, snoracle solaris, other distros. IBM re-wrote a lot of BSD base system calls and customized unix to a great degree. (But it's not impossible, or even that steep of a learning curve, to go from, say, RedHat to AIX, or Solaris to AIX...)

If you google "rsync backup" you'll find a plethora of good "how to's" on setting up ssh and rsync quickly and efficiently; I use it as the preferred method of copying local filesyestems (such as /home) between sysmirror / HACMP / PowerHA cluster members (Which HACMP does NOT do).
