I installed firefox 1.04 on a machine running AIX 5.2 and I can run it as root user but when I su to a non-root user, I get no error messages but firefox doesn't start.
Also if I logon directly as a non-root user I get the followig error messages:

*** ExtensionManager:_updateManifests: no access privileges to application directory, skipping.

*** loading the extensions datasource
*** ExtensionManager:_updateManifests: no access privileges to application directory, skipping.
/tmp/firefox/run-mozilla.sh[36]: 4602 Illegal instruction

Thats the issue, but where that is I do not know. Root has access, but your normal user does not ... Check your install docs to see if it talks about perms on specific directories.

Thanks for the suggestion Mark. I haven't really been able to get much from documentation but I have been playing around with the permissions and the errors have definitely reduced but so far it's still not working. I should be able to give an update in a few hours

It's still not working and I can't figure out what the problem is. I don't get errors anymore but firefox doesn't start if I'm not root.

I have been able to get firefox to run for both the root and non-root users but I get the following message before the browser opens:

Is there something I can do about this?

Just a thought, have you tried the Mozilla.org forums as well? I've read those a few times and I'd bet someone over there could lend you a hand. Have you tried 1.06, any change in the results?

I finally got it to work. It was due to some permission issues as suggested.

Can you tell me what specific permissions you changed? I'm having the same problem.

I made sure all the files and directories had read and execute permissions for all users in addition to whatever the default permissions were.

I also commented out the dump() function calls (with nsExtensionManager in them) in /firefox/components/nsExtensionManager.js to stop the messages
