Post Install AIX on a laptop/workstations

Hi All

We have a requirement in our organisation to create an environment and to work with some tools for a project. For which, the team would want to install softwares onto an AIX server. The team currently holds a Laptop and would want to know if they could install AIX 5.3 on it and to use it as a server.

Please let me know if IBM AIX 5.3 version could be installed on a stand alone Laptop/workstations?. If so, what is the hardware requirement specification should it hold?. If not, what is the exact hardware does it miss out ?

Your answers are much appreciated!!.

Regards,

- Vathsan.

You cannot install AIX on a 'x86' processor family laptop or any other 'x86' based PC.
You need an IBM risc processor based computer such as an RS6000, pSeries or System p to install AIX.

How about a PS3 ... that cell chip has a PPC processor as the dispatcher.
I just bet someone in the (IBM) labs has done this.

Hi All

I would like to know the hardware requirements for installing AIX5.3 on a Laptop. I have heard that, Thinkpad N40 (with RS6000 - 7007) supports the installation of IBM-AIX 3.2.
If that is true, is it possible to install AIX 5.3 on a Laptop running 3.2 ?. If not, what are the hardware upgrades to be made?.

In precise, I would like to get information about hardware requirements (includes model name) for a Laptop to install AIX 5.3. Any details like related URL's, PDF wil be highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!!.

Regards,

- Vathsan.
