Do I need to remote after installation of s/w and set the env variable

Hi,
I have installed ODWEK software on AIX box and set the environment variables like: PATH,LIBPATH,LD_LIBRARY_PATH,CLASSPATH.
My question here is do I need to reboot the system to take these changes or is there anyother workaround. I heard that there is 'export'. But I don't know how far it works.
The reason why we don't want to reboot the box is because we have lot more applications running on that server and that is the production box.
Please help me out.
Thanks
Subha

export or .profile file

Hi,
To permanently set ur environment path variables you can have the directories you wanted to be connected to your path(eg./usr/sbin or /usr/bin or /etc etc.,) in your home directories .profile file.

$PATH=$PATH:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin...
$export PATH
this sets your path variable and when u close your session this addition is lost.To make this addition permanent u shud modify .profile file at the line where PATH is set.

I do not think u need to reboot the machine when you set the environment variables.Hope my information will help you out in some way atleast.
