Hello, I have a AIX Server at work, and a external Modem attatched that I know works, because they have used it to dial-in before. I am trying to use HyperTerminal to dial into the AIX Server. It simply wont connect. I hear lots of the "modem noise" but then it says "was unable to connect". Maybe my emulation is wrong? It's on auto-sence. Does anyone know what my settings should be, or have any ideas at all? Thanks!
-Randy
Yes, I know the modem on the server is configured right. They have used it before, and a remote location was using a AIX Emulation program that used the dial up connection. They do not remember the name of the software however, and I cannot seam to find another one. I assumed Hyperterminal would be able to be used to do this. Maybe it can't emulate the AIX Terminal? Thanks for the help.
Randy
Nope, hyperterminal works, I used it without problems two years ago, no problem. You use hyperterminal in vt100 emulation mode, it works correctly for the connecting part. Some details like F11 key are peinful, that's all.
The problem is coming from somewhere else.
Hyperterminal has to emulate a 9600 baud, 8 bits, no parity terminal. And the modem has to be configured as auto-answer on a tty line configured as 9600 baud, 8bits, no parity, the same way. Should any one of these details be wrong, the thing will not work.
Good luck.
By the way, what happends if you dial the phone number directly in a standard phone line ? Do you ear the remote motem whistling, and trying to auto-answer ? Just the same sound as a remote fax machine ?
You hear both modems talking to each other, and then hyper terminal says "unable to connect" The modem is on a tty line, connected to a digi port server (cluster box). I am trying diffrent emulations right now.
