AIX diagela error message seq.no 119/118

My server configuration is: IBM RS6000 model 7025-6F1 pSeries 620, with 20GB/40GB 4mm Tape Drive.

Got this in root's email:

A PROBLEM WAS DETECTED ON Tue Aug 10 04:01:08 WET 2004 801014

The Service Request Number(s)/Probable Cause(s) (causes are listed in descending order of probability):

21F00001: Refer to the Error Code to FRU Index in the system service
guide.
Error log information:
Sequence number: 119
FRU: n/a P1-Z1-A0.0

651-880: The CEC or SPCN reported an error. Report the SRN and the
following reference and physical location codes to your service
provider.
Error log information:
Sequence number: 118
Ref. Code: 10111511 FRU: 24L1400 V1

Does anyone know how I can determine, and resolve this problem?

Thanks!

what is P1-Z1-A0.0 ? Is it your system disks ? If yes, you should startup a system backup (smit mksysb) as soon as possible.
To see if it's your system disks, lscfg -l hdisk0 (or hdisk1 maybe).
or, more efficiently, " lscfg |grep P1-Z1-A0.0" will give you the name of the faulty device.

We looked at lscfg, and it seems that it doesn't recognizes our 4mm tape drive. So I think that the P1-Z1-A0.0 is the tape drive. I need a solution without a reboot, because we might loose some important data.

Sorry, I thought that you were using AIX 5. You are probably using AIX4. So, in order to know where this drive is, you should probably issue "lscfg -v >/tmp/somefile.txt" and have a look inside that file until you find P1-Z1-A0.0 .

If it's the tape, have a look at the lights on the tape reader, maybe simply it needs using the cleaning tape.

Hello.

We already cleaned the tape with the cleaning tape, but it was useless. The other problem is, that when sometimes we insert a tape into it, after a short period it will be ejected, and sometimes accepted.

We have AIX 4.3.3 installed.

The result of the command lscfg -v gave the following result:

don't see the tape drive. probably broken drive or perhaps not cabled properly. unless you have a SCSI_ERR10, it is probably not connected at all, but hard to say. call IBM for replacement.

Hi,

i see : "cd1 11-08-00-0,0 Other SCSI CD-ROM Drive (20480 MB)
"

did u ever see a CDROM of 20480 MB ?

isn't your tape?

i suppose u've got a cdrom before the tape with the same ID SCSI.

make a "rmdev -dl cd1" and a cfgmgr , u will see a device called rmt0.

a +
