AIX 5.2 & Gnome Desktop

Hi,

I'm using the Gnome desktop on our AIX 5.2 system from a Windows XP PC using Cygwin on the PC as an X server. It seems to work fine, but I do get the following warnings when I start the Gnome session from my xterm and every time a subsequent Window is invoked.

** (gnome-session:299076): WARNING **: Could not load converter from ISO-8859-13 to UTF-8

** (gnome-session:299076): WARNING **: Could not load converter from KOI8-R to UTF-8

I assume we are missing some package on the AIX. Does any one have an idea on what could be missing to cause these warnings?

Regards,

Michael

Hello everyone,

I have a better understanding of what is happening, but do not know how to correct it yet.

The Cygwin X server has two character sets (IS0-8859-13 (Baltic Lanquage) and K0I8 (Russian)) that the Gnome desktop does not know about in it's X11 libraries.

I have not figured out how to delete it in Cygwin or add it to AIX Gnome yet to stop the warnings.

Is it just warning you? or is it actually preventing you from using the system?

It is just warning me, I can still use the system. However, if it was not too much trouble I wanted to get rid the pages of warnings generated every time a window is opened.

Regards,

Michael
