AIX 4.2.1 and Apache

Hey guys,
Our company is working on installing a new software package on a customer's AIX server. This package requires the use of Apache Web Server.

The system is AIX 4.2.1 (old, but very time consuming to update). Customer does not necessarily wish to upgrade their box. We are trying to install Apache 1.3 and are coming across an error. It cannot find (shr_comm.o) and complains about libpthread.a.

From what I have been able to gather the pthread library was completely modified in 4.3 of AIX and apache was designed for 4.3, however I have heard of people successfully getting this version to work on 4.2.1. I did try compiling from src with the gcc compiler and met up with a successful compile, yet I still get the exact same complaint when trying to run httpd.

If anyone has any ideas on what can be done to fix this issue please let me know.

Question? could 4.3 pthread libraries be moved to a 4.2 machine without causing problems?

or could pthreads be disabled in apache.

Thanks again for the help

go binary

You can get a binary of apache for older AIX's here:
http://aixpdslib.seas.ucla.edu/packages/apache.html

I have a portal of such useful URLs here:
