Can we please add SMPlayer to the list? Yes, it uses mplayer for its backend but this is category is "Video Media Player Application" not "Video Player Engine"
I been trying out MPV of late, and it may replace VLC for me. smplayer now has support for MPV. I tried some others, but right now I'm just using MPV and cli. It has a long learning curve, but once you get use to the commands, its a snap. Much lighter than VLC
mplayer2? Why would you replace something that's perfect?
I'm sure VLC is nice too but mplayer just works so well for me I've never bothered to see whether the grass is indeed greener on the other side of the proverbial fence.
