Quod Libet handles many and long playlists, and it comes up fast. It has a long pre-loaded list of radio stations, although I tend to use Radio Tray.

Xine or mplayer. From time to time I'll use xmms if I'm in a winamp mood, but for the most part it's mplayer or xine.

Mplayer and xine really need to be added to the list.

For ease of use & clients for every possible OS it is no contest: MPD.

gmusicbrowser !!!

It is the only application to use for large collections of albums.

The backend program I choose for it is mplayer.

Audacious is good. It supports many audio format with plugins.

I use banshee. Classical dependency hell but when it's set up right, it just blows everyone else away, feature-wise.

No one else can do Lyrics, Wikipedia, Last.FM suggestions + scrobbling, YouTube suggestions, similar sounding songs (with Mirage), BPM detection, mobile phone syncing, SoundCloud integration and unique visualizations at the same time.

I still use MOC and I like but I hear many people saying that MPD is even better so I'm going to give it a try someday.
