rox-filer, though spacefm has to be the best filer to appear in 2013

captbill 12-28-2013 02:26 PM

DoubleCommander by far.

Myk267 12-29-2013 08:42 PM

Thunar, but only because I have it installed. If I knew how to use M-x dired, or something else, I might be a member of those uninitiated in proper file management.

I don't think I'll ever vote for anything other than Midnight Commander. In this poll or in future polls.

chrisretusn 01-13-2014 07:35 PM

I use MC a lot and that is what I voted for. I also use Dolphin a lot too.

jdeca57 01-14-2014 05:02 AM

If I want work done, then mc. Else it depends on the OS I'm using. In Debian, it's Nautilus. ;-)

savotije 01-15-2014 03:16 AM

Dolphin

no terminal option for file management? In 17 years of linux i don't think i have used a file manager but 1-2 times and that was just to see what a file manager was...

iwalton3 01-15-2014 03:02 PM

Thunar, because it doesn't get in the way and has the features I expect. It also has the bulk rename tool.

TommyC7 01-15-2014 04:46 PM

Can we get qtfm added to the list? It's quite a nice file manager that uses qt.

jeremy 01-15-2014 04:57 PM

We typically don't add new projects to a category if they haven't had a release in the year of the MCA.

If you're into Emacs, dired is pretty powerful. See info pages. Otherwise... not ;-)

P.S.; Also don't really have to invoke dired directly, just C-x C-f and provide a directory rather than file name and you'll be there.

Jeremy; Too late to add Englightenment's file manager? Circa E17 stabiliy was a bit dicey but with E18 it is pretty nice.

Edit: I'm actually really liking this as of E18 but it's integrated and doesn't seem to be available as standapp. Be kind of a drag to have to pull in all those EFL libs as well, so no wonder it didn't get added ;-P
