Just Mate for me is an excellent Desktop environment for Linux

cowlitzron 12-17-2013 02:24 PM

I voted for the full featured KDE, which is the best to use with AC power. However, I prefer using Razor-Qt when using battery power.

KDE Plasma, no doubt about it. Well ahead of all others. The most powerful, the most configurable the most innovative and available in special versions for desktops and tablets so nothing gets sacrificed.

I'm using Unity, which is default in Ubuntu, and it suits my needs. Don't want other DE.

Janus_Hyperion 12-17-2013 04:45 PM

XFCE of course ...

Fnux 12-17-2013 05:21 PM

Cinamon.

XFCE is what I've been using. Few surprises, results seem consistent over the years. I want to check out Mate at some point.

KDE for me. I've tried many desktop environments, but KDE felt the most complete. I was originally not fond of the overall look, but after a little toying around with a few themes I'm now content.

I've been hearing a lot of good things about Equinox Desktop Environment. It's great for systems that need a lightweight desktop environment. Didn't see it mentioned in the list of choices.

KDE on my desktop and laptop. XFCE or LXDE on my netbook.

thim 12-18-2013 12:48 PM

KDE or Xfce? Difficult to decide... Anyway, let's say KDE

mariostg 12-18-2013 08:02 PM

Xfce paired with OpenBox as WM.

teresaejunior 12-19-2013 03:52 AM

Xfce4. KDE and Trinity-DE come as a secondary option. ROX is a nice, but a bit slow in development. Most others are just locked desktops, that you can't change much to your tastes...

At work where I run Debian off of a live USB stick this exactly how I use XFCE. Far better than with XFWM4 on a P4/2.8.

Level0Labs 12-19-2013 08:08 AM

For me it is XFCE.
