X Terminal Emulator of the Year
A new category this year.

Voted Sakura
Not been very adventurous, just keep using xterm and/or Konsole.
Gnome Terminal
I'm partial to lxterminal, but it isn't on the list
I voted Lilyterm
I use a few different things, but I enjoy playing with Lilyterm sometimes.
A few things are a little more kewl the way they work, and a couple of things I like the way say, xterm operates. All in all you just need to be conscious to know which one you've got running when moving between terminal emulators. I also really like Remminahttp://remmina.sourceforge.net/ just using local ssh connections. |
roxterm has come on pretty well over the last year or so.
Are we counting rxvt-unicode / urvxt as "rxvt"?
Notwithstanding Snark's question, urxvt should be on the list.
Jeremy clarified it last week when he asked for feedback about suggested nominees.
rxvt, urxvt and mrxvt are put in one family. |
i have not so serious on this but i voted the gnome terminal
Obviously, GNOME Terminal
Roxterm
After some further consideration, urxvt has been added.
--jeremy |
yeahconsole.
add it please. it may just be a drop-down holder for a terminal, but there's no way i'm voting for xterm. ;) |
gnome terminal, but they're really all the same!
I voted for Terminator, but rxvt is good too.
Mate Terminal
Sick of Gnome's nonsense; using Mate. Love its terminal. Not on the list, though. :-(
Konsole. It's fast and has lots of options and tabs, just in case I'm too lazy or forget to use GNU screen.
I tried lots of them, from time to time I still try a new one but I end up going back to urxvt: stable, usable, decent unicode support, fast enough, less bling more unix.
Konsole, because it's a natural choice when using KDE. Oh, and being able to control it using keyboard shortcuts is great.
LXTerminal
guake is the only terminal I need
Can we get "Terminal" (Xfce's terminal emulator)?
Quote:
Why XFCE Terminal: It's comes with XFCE (always keep a copy installed), and it's got plain text config file that I can copy between machines (not an Xresources file) whic saves my color scheme and font preferences. URXVT or RVXT-Unicode are great, not because of their clever implementation of UTF-8 char sets ( I tend to only read English) but the tab support has the best key combination I've seen for tab management. Because everyone else comes up with crazy schemes (CTRL+SHIFT+?!) it gets a very close second vote, because who wants to crunch their hand up to switch and create tabs? If you're going to make it that hard, then I might as well just open a new window. |
Terminal (Xfce) has been added.
--jeremy |
Just love Yakuake. It lets use always have a terminal by hand on any virtual desktop without the need to keep it open.
LilyTerm
No, really. I've been through xterm, aterm, rxvt, eterm and terminator. Stayed with lxterminal for a while, but I ended with LilyTerm. Pretty much fuckin' awesome terminal. :) By the way, Terminology deserves to be added here. |

terminal (Xfce) :)
Stjerm missing (lighter than Tilda and with some more features, like the ability to drag tabs). ROXterm + tmux is a great combination also.
stjerm-terminal has been added.
--jeremy |
Thanks for all additions!
Although at home I mostly use Konsole as it meets my needs and is the default on KDE, I must vote for Roxterm as if I desire a terminal on any DE/WM that's not KDE, I install it right away. It's fairly feature rich considering its' size.
Not too experienced with the others. I do like Guake. But Terminator is my fav so far...
Gnome/kde
As I'm mainly a Kubuntu user now I had to vote for konsole.
But when using Gnome based Ubuntu I use terminator. |
Great addition to the catogories. I have thoroughly enjoyed Xfce Terminal for years and when run with gnuscreen, it's even better.
No love for aterm?

Ahh, in that case I'll go with Konsole, as it's configuration is extensive and easy.
Konsole
Guake is my favourite
I like XFCE terminal.
I like Terminology or rxvt.
The Terminator...I'll be back!
I use Gnome Connection Manager
"aterm" is missing?

Hey Jeremy - It's perhaps a bit late for this year but you should keep terminology on your list for next year. Truly innovative terminal from Rastermanl, of e17 fame. A bit rough around the edges yet so I am still using Roxterm but definitely worth a look:
