GIMP, although it's a bitch to learn. AutoCAD is more intuitive, for me at least.

* We do realize that some polls have nominees that are not directly comparable. There are already over 30 polls. If we got down to the granularity some members would like to see, there would be 100's if not 1000's of polls. That would be a net decline in the usefulness of the awards IMHO. We try to strike the best balance we can, and do modify the polls and nominees every year, based on feedback. If you have any suggestions on how the polls can be improved, do let us know.

There are applications that are missing from any categories, like "Best mail client", "Best image viewer", "Best document/PDF viewer", "Best P2P/torrent application (or download manager)"... I believe most of us have a desktop around!

I would like to vote for Digikam but it is not in the voting list... Really the best open source suite for managing photographs.

The choice is not easy because a nice GNU/Linux can't live without Blender+GIMP+Inkscape: they are complimentary and not competitors! Blender if I don't want to get bored on a island.

Too many good ones to choose from. Didn't notice grafx2 or grahpicsmagick listed. Both are great. I also like gle, I.mage, rawtherapee, tux paint and netpbm. Recently tried out an updated port of antipaint that was interesting. Thought svg-edit looked like a nice alternative to inkscape.
