Firebird !!

for the pro-Firebird crowd out there... I'm curious about the pros/cons vs. postgresql. If you have a link to another thread or site with that kind of info, I'd be interested. The ones I found during a casual search were several years old and generally didn't lean in favor of Firebird in a side-by-side feature comparison.

SQLite. More and more it replaces regular text files that are used by applications.

MySQL for its amazing performance on huge tables. I believe MariaDB should be the same, so I was going to try moving my dbs to it, since MySQL development road has changed after the Oracle purchase. But I found that, at least on Debian, MariaDB is much bigger than and depends on MySQL packages. So I stayed with MySQL at least during the Wheezy release.

My vote goes for PostgreSQL... The one which I mostly preferred.

It depends on the country. For example, Firebird is very used on Brazil.

Get ready for the new!. Firebird is the most cost effective in the database that a company can have. Open Source, almost zero maintenance, excellent performance and many important resources. Several countries are adopting it. Firebird is the base of applications in our company and we are very pleased.
