Newbie here again. I've only been using Rhythmbox so far. Will have to try out some of these other suggestions. I still use an old version of MusicMatch Jukebox in the MS world. Love it's versatility.

VLC
VLC is the only application I find particularly "sane" for music, IMHO. Sadly, it's not on the list.

+1 (Though I use mplayer2, and sometimes with "**/* -shuffle", but I'm unsure this means a big difference in spirit)

Clementine. I love the interface. Banshee is close, but it brings in many dependencies for me, and i have issues with the lyrics plugin on banshee.

Very happy with cmus. Really great console audio player, I especially love its vi-like key bindings.

Just tried out Nightingale for the first time. I'd never used songbird before. Wow, simply wow, that is one top audio player. Shall defiantly monitor the progress of it. May replace Clementine once it matures a little more. Alas, it seems to be self themeing like firefox and thunderbird, but that's not a big issue.

For audio I use vlc. For video I use mplayer. So, in video category I voted for mplayer. Here I cannot give my vote to anything.
