Audio Authoring Application of the Year
Which app do you prefer for authoring and editing audio?

Hmm. I find it hard to compare Audacity - which is more for post-production and effects, for any sound file - with the likes of Rosegarden and especially Hydrogen. Like so many of these polls, it's a case of different tools for different jobs. But I recognise the impossibility of having a separate poll for every single use case! :) And so I'm voting for Audacity.

If LAME, an MP3 encoder, is in the list, then you should include OGG and FLAC, too.
|
Audacity for me.
|
I am voting for Audacity because it has similar features to those in the Windows program Soundforge.
Regards Philip |
Odd, I voted for it because it has identical features to the windows program Audacity! :)
And HI from Randburg! |
Audactiy. It does everything that Protools does and is open source. I like to record at studios that use Audacity instead of Protools too.
Why is LAME in the list? That's kinda like listing ffmpeg isn't it? |
SecretCode hi from a wet and rainy Boksburg. I also loaded Audacity in Windows. It looks very similar to the Linux version.
Works more or less the same. Regards Philip |
Cross-platform software is the thing, no doubt about it.
|
I have the audacity to vote!

This is why I'm not voting in this category. |
Audacity for me. It was a marvellous tool when I took on the onerous task of ripping my considerable collection of vinyl.
|
Audacity sure for me.
|
Audacity
Audacity is always on my list of first things to install on a new installation.
|
Seriously? Ardour is the way to go. But, if audacity was non-destructive I would totally go for it.
|
Its not quite fair to put Rosegarden in the audio-editing category with Audacity. RG is all about recording, creating, and editing MIDI. In the past I have used RG to create the tune but then fixed it up with Audacity.
|
My vote is for Ardour, as Audacity does not hold water for the serious stuff.
|
Ardour to record (with Jack and a real-time kernel) and Audacity to edit. There's too much of a lag in Audacity.
