Open Source Game of the Year

What's your favorite Open Source Game?

smeezekitty 01-08-2010 11:49 AM

None of the above, i like rigs of rods.

H_TeXMeX_H 01-08-2010 01:12 PM

Well, out of the ones listed, I'd say UFO is the best one. I would also vote for nethack, but it gets enough votes anyway.

jumico 01-09-2010 09:28 PM

warsow? hedgewars?

if only urban terror was open source.

linuxlover.chaitanya 01-10-2010 12:35 AM

Well I like most of the games there but I still like SuperTux to play and relax myself.

gotfw 01-10-2010 05:27 AM

Going to let the kids weigh in on this one... but I'm willing to bet it's going to be Wesnoth...:)

the trooper 01-11-2010 12:10 PM

Still really like Openarena.
I guess once a Quake fan,always a Quake fan!!.

nux_ro 01-13-2010 06:33 AM

You guys really have to try Tremulous, it's so unlike anything else I played, and I also was a q3 junkie.

raju.mopidevi 01-13-2010 08:46 PM

Super tux ...

rweaver 01-14-2010 11:40 AM

If you include nethack you MUST include angband.

jeremy 01-14-2010 01:10 PM

Angband has been added.

Both my kids and I like ufoai.
The big draw back is compiling the silly game can be a bit of a nightmare.
I did it on slack but debian is still out.

code933k 01-18-2010 12:32 PM

Urban Terror is the source of all joy!! Sadly I can't find it here.

TheStarLion 01-21-2010 03:56 AM

What? No OpenTTD? They did recently release their first 1.x version (shameless plug alert) which relies on absolutly no non-free materials whatsoever.

Unless you want music, or want to use the orignal TTD graphics or sounds.

amk229 01-21-2010 07:29 AM

AssaultCube

Please add AssaultCube ...cant resist playing it every day...

jeremy 01-21-2010 09:41 AM

OpenTTD has been added. AssaultCube does not meet the requirements of the poll.

Tux & Mario-like games.

I'm not familiar with most of these. I voted SuperTux, it's a cool little game.

I'm a HUGE Mario fan, but switching to Linux I've missed all those games. The only similar games I've found are Secret Maryo (SMC) and SuperTux. But I don't even know where the best place the find these kind of games is.
If you know of any games like Mario, SuperTux or SMA please let me know.

adrian_vg@yahoo.com 01-22-2010 01:52 AM

Could you add Aislerot Solitaire? Not a very high tech game, but it's what I always find myself playing while waiting for some job to finish.

Lobais 01-26-2010 03:06 AM

An actually playable chessgame like PyChess would be nice to have on the list. And Gnuchess hasn't changed that much for many years.

Willrandship 01-28-2010 10:36 PM

Hedge Wars. It's a way better remake of worms armaggedon than wormux. Add it to the list please! While using hedgehogs, it still feels much more like worms, even using the same menu and control feel! Plus the physics are much better than wormux's bouncy characters.

Richie55 02-02-2010 02:35 AM

My vote would have been for spring...

Willrandship 02-03-2010 03:49 PM

I voted for Armagetron since Hedge Wars wasn't present...

sag47 02-04-2010 08:19 AM

X-Moto is my all time favorite

sam_o_rogers 02-09-2010 09:30 AM

No vote, not enough time to test.

It used to be NetHack, but recent versions of it seem less user friendly than the one I had on my Ubuntu 6.06. I've been playing Flash based games lately, and have not looked at the other games available. Sorry if I'm not being fair, but I didn't feel I should bias this category without using all the options. I don't want to discourage any of these good people.

gotfw 02-09-2010 10:39 AM

Guess I'd better get around to voting. The kids are unanimous:

Battle for Wesnoth!

raju.mopidevi 02-09-2010 04:41 PM

Battle of wesnoth ..?? I don't even heard this game. Now I'll try it. Because many LQ people likes this game.

embed 02-10-2010 10:04 AM

I should be ashamed of myself, for not voting here, and the moderators should be ashamed for not putting Sauerbraten in the list.

jeremy 02-10-2010 10:10 AM

1) FWIW, don't blame the LQ mods for any missing nominees, it's me who decides what gets added and what doesn't.

2) Sauerbraten (the game) is not Open Source. No Open Source engines are included in this poll.

linuxlover.chaitanya 02-10-2010 11:51 PM

Yuppee.....I think my SuperTux made it to top 5.
