Don't know what you mean by "modern distros" though, it's quite obvious that ubiquitous, scalable and expressive human interfaces are quite valuable yet nowadays. That's why I always chosen vim: Learned in one day, never forgotten. Fast, stable, precise and helping a lot those persons with "rodent syndrome". Just like me.

vi -brings me great services today, but vim is an absolute in terms of expression as far as I do understand. Now, there are another editors for our moms.

I dunno, don't sell yourself too short here; we shouldn't necessarily trip all over ourselves to keep from offending other people. Certainly we all have a tool that we think works best for us, but there are other possibilities beyond that which we simply do not yet know. One of the best ways to find out about them is for somebody else to say, "hey I think you could do better if you tried this." Sometimes it takes an outside influence to get us to expand our worldview. It's kind of like Paul Graham's "blub" language, we're all limited by what we know and frequently use.

I guess my last post was not that clear. I'm not going to change it because it's already seen some reaction. Please consider this an addendum.

@taylor_venable, @Nikosis: Sorry if I sounded like that I was asking you in particular when I asked not to troll. I actually didn't mean that. I was telling that to the others who would later pick up from my reply to your posts and make it a religious war.

I get that both your posts had a point, I was just trying to add some other views I thought wasn't visible from them.

Actually what I meant was that (for people who'd troll, not you) there's no need to go into a flamewar. I do however agree to your point that, we need to try other possibilities for continuous development of self. I just don't think that trying to force one's opinion on another it not a good thing.

I'm kind of an irregular at LQ so I only just bothered to check the Awards and boy was I thrilled to see this, since vim is actually the greatest piece of software of all time bar none! Does anyone know how many years in a row it has been this way? (Please say "all of them"!!!)
