100% Debian Sid for any user, I know, the pure Sid folks disagree that's important.
Think of all those extra installs as a turbo button on getting packages moved thru unstable faster.
7 months, no issues of any kind.
Rolling release, no reinstall to upgrade.
Newest versions in repos.
What more could you want in a Debian based distro?
Ubuntu/Kubuntu 8.10 has to to be the best thing since sliced bread. I wonder that Microsoft bothered with trying to come up with something to compete with Linux after their Vista fiasco. If one wants the best of all worlds it can only be Linux.
I wouldn't go for any of the above listing above sidux - I'm surprised it's not in the desktop line-up. sidux is 'the package' for a fast, reliable, leading edge linux install and I, and my 'clients' by default (!), wouldn't use anything else!
Ubuntu - from the 8.04 to 8.10, Ubuntu has delivered on not only a GOOD LOOKING desktop, but an incredibly easy to use, functional desktop. I've tried Gentoo and love it, I tried OpenSolaris and its okay, but to come in and challenge the status quo (Windblows) with such confidence definitely deserves top desktop honors. Ubuntu is NOT what Linux is all about, but Ubuntu DOES show the versatility of linux to not only appeal to the developers with distros geared for them, but also the average user that just wants something that works.
