I think you are very right, and I have a strong hope that those proposals will be accepted -at least- in the next year. Xmonad is really awesome as it can use approximately 8 to 10 different managing modes nowadays: (vertical and horizontal) Tiling, Ion Tabbed, accordion, circle, overlapping, floating and a some others I really don't care. It is strongly modularized and very keyboard oriented (though there's mouse too...). You can setup different layout spaces for different applications, select different setups per application and so forth.
What I really don't understand is why most people doesn't get the difference between a DE (Desktop Environment) and WM (Window Manager) overall when there is a whole curve in productivity that the WIMP model will never break.
Who need a desktop when you can blend together virtual desktops, normal windows, keyboard and mouse? It is another world and people is coming too slowly.
