I want a split for console and gui based editors becouse I want to vote for gedit and Midnight Commander Editor at once :)

I've only used vim and gedit. vim seemed simpler to use and thus more idiot proof (what I need).

Nedit + recode

I still use Nedit, plus a recode script to convert to/from UTF-8.

Gedit is UTF-8 capable, but still a bit slow in popping up and it can't handle doubling of line by simple marking and middle-button clicking. Also I won't be surprised if it had no complete server-mode (like nedit-nc -line %l -file %f).

One day Gedit will catch up, when all the shiny icons are polished and no more bells and whistles to add.

:)
