Perhaps next year there could be a one item poll just for pclinuxos, all the fanboys could preach to each other in hyperbolic terms of wonder and ecstasy while dissing all other distros and voting multiple times. Everyone else could just pass on by to the main events.

Post For the next year:

eyeos should be seriously considered as it's a revolutionary approach to the desktop concept: "Total XML content integration". It's currently maturing but surely this days it's a few people who can think of a difference between the WEB GUI side and its Desktop GUI counterpart...

That integration means less GUI programming time + more productive exploration of the inter -connectivity among apps. (I think this difference between "here" and "there" is becoming philosophically and technically useless)

I have already posted in this thread, stating that Ubuntu Gutsy is the best distro I have tried among others which was released in the year 2007.But,I have tried Mandriva1 for the first time recently, and that thing just works.Every other distro I have tried had some kind of a problem(s) and I have tried them a lot:Fedora,Ubuntu,PCLOS,Knoppix,DSL,Parsix, open Suse etc.

Can't Believe It!

I find it hard to believe that someone really thinks that Ubuntu with Gnome, is an easier transition from Windows than Mepis with KDE. Why would anyone want to search forums in order to find out how to configure their system with Ubuntu, when Mepis works out of the box with a desktop that's closer to a Windows environment? Besides, why tinker with Ubuntu, when Mint has already done all the tinkering. Please don't make it harder on converts.

CentOS is not really for Desktop. It is good, but it lacks the good Repository of Software that Fedora offers for the Desktop. Probably good for Severs and Work, etc.

Question memory fades

Thinking of phrase - many - most - some - of you

Never mind.

I'll go fact based. I'm old enough to remember an old operating system that had a huge fan base. There were print magazines and bbs groups. Sort of like chat and internet. People found solutions to the bugs and lame programming and shared it with each other.

It was called MS-DOS.

The fans are old and unemployed and eating cat food when they can get it. Mr. Gates is trying on yachts like we try on hand me down clothes.

Ubuntu anyone?

Linux?

I'm trying to find a fast new distro that works if I work at it.

Or maybe Debian.

Question for everyone is who is really rewarding a community for inspired efforts? Does not have to be monetary. Just thanks and I'll help you keep food on your table would be enough for a sane community.

For those from an insane community - trust me - food is very important not cpu power.

Affordable housing is nice too.

I wonder if we could take the linux model to new levels and create a creative community that finds new models for sharing food and clothing and shelter?

Never mind - MLK, MG, MX and all our heros are dead.

Wait a minute! Men and women with a dream are our heros. And we all dream don't we?

desktop distos

BSD flavors are next to true UNIX there is and Debian and Slackware are right next to it. It takes courage to go back and actually run xterm and then be blessed by Stallman's EMACS. I am really impressed by people like Ken Thompson and Dennis Richie, who gave us UNIX. I am impressed by Richard Stallman who provided everyone with most of the software that makes Linux possible. This is computing at its best. I admire Linus Tovald's dedication to lock himself up in a room to create the Linux Kernel and give it away in a Richard Stallman sort of a way! It is GNU/Linux. All distos exist because of this. Most distos are either Debian, Red Hat, Slackware based, so where is the magic in that? It's something to think about.
