like it or not, i also use mplayer from the cli as my audio app 'cos it works. It's also my podcast client of choice and stream grabber of choice - it even handles realplayer files. So far as I can tell none of the options can do all that but to be honest as mplayer does it so well I've never bothered to look for a replacement.
Amarok seems has few failures but it's the best as it meets all my requirements.. xmms did do that, but xmms is getting old and grumpy, better let him rest in peace!
This is an easy one. Still Amarok. Hands down the best music player I have ever used (even if I count the dark ages of Windows). Integration with last.fm, Wikipedia and Magnatune are great. User interface is also just right.
