And if I make a poll (quiz...) for Gnome users, "What is default Gnome Window Manager?", will you link to it from poll announcement (I can link only from 4-th post, way too deep)?

And what if MetaCity loses?

The default WM for Gnome has nothing to do with the topic of this poll that I can see.

Well, I can easily imagine some Mandriva user, who uses Gnome and not KDE because "windows behave better". So while really having made choice of MetaCity over KWin, and while knowing that the choice was of window manager more than anything else, such user can know neither of window managers' standalone names. KWin is easy to guess anyway.

I use KDE so really my main window manager is KWin. I would vote for KWin on that basis but I'm voting for Fluxbox because it is an awesome "standalone" window manager.

I use Fluxbox on occasion when I really need to push my hardware and the KDE "bloat" really starts to noticeably get in the way. I don't really know much about KWin other than it is KDE's child... plus it's just part of the environment.

I know plenty about Fluxbox and use it enough to vote as my window manager of 2006.

Fluxbox, definitely. I personally find the *box wm's to be the most elegant desktop solution.

I have to vote for ion. Although I know most people wouldn't use it. But every time I try and change to a different window manager, I find myself back in ion within a day. Go minimalism!

Somewhat true, I was fascinated by *box'es before, but again and again I tend to return to WindowMaker. Don't really know why, maybe it's just the fact that it offers everything I need and nothing I don't almost, at least, but on the other hand there is no perfect thing.

Maybe it was time to try Fluxbox again, to see if it has evolved again..I did like some of the features of it's devel version last time I tried it out, but the devel version didn't work too well so I had to give up for the sake of my work. Hopefully those features are on a non-devel version soon ("stable")

Thumbs up Beryl

Two window managers that impressed me most this year are Compiz and later Bery. They sure can provide some very nice eyecandy and this eyecandy attracted a lot of my coworkers and friends to Linux when I showed them my laptop with Beryl running.
