Next year should we split this into Desktop and Server distro of the year?

Indiestory 01-01-2007 07:42 AM

slack all the way, you got to like things working

Dutch Master 01-01-2007 08:10 AM

Debian, what else? ;)

Niko 01-01-2007 10:24 AM

windows vista of course!

nah I'm kidding, please don't kill me for saying the W-word and the V-word. I would have to say Gentoo. Even though there was nothing wrong with latest ubuntu release. Neither with latest FC

Mandriva 2007, the most user friendly distro, just "plug and play"

As for desktop, PCLinuxOS of course. (Installed on hard disk).

Definitely YES.

Vitalie Ciubotaru 01-01-2007 05:05 PM

Is there anyone who likes one's OWN distro? I like MINE. I didn't give it a name, but people generally refer to it as LINUX FROM SCRATCH. Let it be LFS.

hbush, you live in a nice location -- "Latvia, EU". When will I be able to say "Moldova, EU"?

Well... since Jan.1 2007, Romania is already in. I wish you and your country success in ascending! There are both difficulties and good sides in becoming part of EU, but good things IMHO prevail, by far. Be active, support pro-EU politics in your country!

On-topic: EU is moving towards widening use of Linux in public sector. One more reason to make your choice ;)

openSUSE 10.2

I was the most impressed with openSUSE 10.2. The new KDE Kickoff menu (replacement for K menu) is great. Also most of the things just work. The only thing that need improvement is the package manager and updater.

BigFoot13 01-01-2007 08:14 PM

Kubuntu all the way!

jag2000 01-01-2007 09:06 PM

Gonna have to say Suse or Opensuse as its called now. 10.2

Ha1f 01-01-2007 09:31 PM

I stay loyal to the Gentoo Nation...

Great Suggestion. I use freeBSD for my servers and Slackware for my workstations. You can't get any better than slack.
